Residents in West Bridgford set to be consulted on possible town council

Residents in West Bridgford are set to be consulted later this year on the possible creation of a new parish and associated town council.
A Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) meeting on Thursday (September 17) accepted a petition from the West Bridgford Local Area Forum (WBLAF) requesting a Community Governance Review be carried out in West Bridgford.
Over 2,800 valid signatories were confirmed following validation of a petition having passed the 7.5%, or 2,385 electors required to trigger the review.
Now residents and local businesses are set to be asked for their views in a first round of consultation in November.
The petition from the WBLAF proposes “the creation of a Town Council for West Bridgford to:
- Better match policies and resources with the needs of the whole community
- Enhance a sense of place, supporting our local environment, communities and local distinctiveness
- Increase community empowerment, engagement and cohesion”.
The petition provides a map of the current unparished area of West Bridgford and written description of the proposed boundaries of the new parish, what benefits the petitioners feel that a town council can bring to the area, the potential financial impact and risks of the change and what happens after the petition is submitted.
There will be two stages of consultation over the next 12 months with a decision at Council in September 2027. Given the significance of this decision, good community engagement will be key with a Councillor Working Group to lead on the Review and ultimately make a recommendation to Full Council.
