Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to rushcliffe.gov.uk

This website is run by Rushcliffe Borough Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • Most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • Live video streams do not have captions

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Rushcliffe Borough Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliance listed below.

Non-accessible content

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • Some older PDFs and Word documents don't meet accessibility standards. For example; they may not be structured so that they're accessible to a screen reader. This doesn't meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2.

  • There is poor colour contrast when the keyboard tabs onto the button "Councillor's Portal". WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (minimum): Elements must have sufficient colour contrast. This is visible on all pages of the website. This has been referred to our software supplier.

  • Register for a Self-Service Account page: The chevron icon is not accessible using the keyboard. This means the sidebar column cannot be expanded to view the full links "Login" and "Register" . WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard - Users should be able to use a keyboard to access all content and functionality of a web page. This means the page can be used by people with no vision as well as people who use alternative keyboards or input devices that act as a keyboard. This has been referred to our software supplier.

  • Register for a Self-Service Account page: There is poor colour contrast when the mouse hovers over the link "Login" down the side of the webpage (once the chevron column has been expanded). WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (minimum): Elements must have sufficient colour contrast. This has been referred to our software supplier.

  • Non-Functioning ‘Skip’ Navigation on all pages. This fails Bypass Blocks - WCAG 2.4.1 Level A, and has been referred to our software supplier.
  • Non-Descriptive Link Text: on Public enquiry land west of Bradmore and north of Wysall Road page and other pages on this site. This fails Info and Relationships WCAG 1.3.1 Level A –and Link Purpose WCAG 2.4.4 Level A . Aria-labels repeat ‘View’ as the first word of the link which is not meaningful when many links are present.
  • Incorrect Table Coding: some tables have cells that are not labelled TH to show they are a heading. This fails Info and Relationships WCAG 1.3.1 Level A – work is underway to identify these tables and correct this error. This work is expected to be completed by 31 October 2026.
  • Video missing Audio Description – some videos have information presented on the screen but do not have an audio description. This fails Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded) WCAG 1.2.3 Level A and Audio Description (Prerecorded) WCAG 1.2.5 Level AA. A resolution to this issue is being investigated.
  • Language and Reading direction disparity: this issue appears on the Translation page in relation to languages that read from right to left. This fails Meaningful Sequence WCAG 1.3.2 Level A. This has been referred to our software supplier.
  • Inaccessible Non-HTML Documents – A fail on Non-text content WCAG 1.1.1 Level A, Info and Relationships WCAG 1.3.1 Level A, Meaningful Sequence WCAG 1.3.2 Level A and Page Titled WCAG 2.4.2 Level A. Work is underway to identify these tables and correct this error. This work is expected to be completed by 31 October 2026.
  • Landmarks – there are multiple sections throughout the site that are not clearly distinguished as they do not have unique labels. This fails Info and Relationships WCAG 1.3.1 Level A and Bypass Block WCAG 2.4.1 Level A. This has been referred to our software supplier.
  • Insufficient Colour Contrast on selection of the search bar – this is a fail for Contrast (Minimum) WCAG1.4.3 Level AA and, Non-text Contrast WCAG 1.4.11 Level AA. This has been referred to our software supplier.
  • Obscured Text. Text breaks on some pages when browser zoom is increased to 200%. This fails Resize text WCAG 1.4.4 Level AA – this has been referred to our software supplier.
  • Responsive Design: content disappears when zoomed to 400% throughout the site. This is a fail for Reflow WCAG 1.4.10 Level AA – this has been referred to our software supplier.
  • Bypass Mechanism Not Provided / Not Operable. This fails Bypass Blocks - WCAG 2.4.1 Level A, Focus Order WCAG 2.4.3 Level A and WCAG 1.3.2 Level A and has been referred to our software supplier.
  • Unlabelled Button – on Google Maps on various pages, the markers are not labelled. This is a fail for Level A WCAG Non-text Content 1.1.1, Info and Relationships WCAG 1.3.1, Label in Name WCAG 2.5.3, Labels or Instructions WCAG 3.3.2, Name, Role, Value WCAG 4.1.2 and Identity Input Purpose WCAG 1.3.5 Level AA .
  • User Not Informed of Content Change: search results are not announced to the reader when using iOS. This fails Status Messages WCAG 4.1.3 Level AA. This has been referred to our software supplier.
  • Element Markup – elements are not presented in the correct order or not closing search suggestions on some pages throughout the site. This fails Name, Role, Value WCAG 4.1.2 Level A and Focus Not Obscured (Minimum) WCAG 2.4.11 Level AA. This has been referred to our software supplier.
  • Bypass Mechanism Not Visible / Operable on Focus WCAG 2.4.7 Level AA. This has been referred to our software supplier.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Following assessment by Shaw Trust we are working to establish a confirmed list of issues that are non-accessible.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

All policies and strategies have an accessible html webpage version. We also create an accessible webpage for many other documents. This is an ongoing process and old PDFs will be replaced over time.

We are working with our software supplier to resolve the non-compliant elements of our website.

This website was last tested on 21 May 2026 against the WCAG 2.2 AA standard.
