Keyworth Leisure Centre reopens after full refurbishment

Last updated: 16/9/2025

Keyworth Leisure Centre has re-opened with a fresh new look with support from Rushcliffe Borough Council’s (RBC) £5.2m investment in refurbishments and energy efficient improvements across its leisure centres.

The popular leisure centre on Church Drive in the village has undergone a full refurbishment to enhance the site, including:

  • A modernised gym with larger layout
  •  Refurbished changing rooms with new lockers, cubicles, floor tiles, doors, and lighting
  •  A refreshed reception and new seating area with improved views of swimming lessons
  • Relined pools, repaired roof and upgraded ventilation and air conditioning
  • New signage and an updated external appearance

The works were delivered by JRD Design and Build based in Ilkeston.

Mayor of Rushcliffe Cllr John Cottee officially re-opened the centre alongside Council representatives, Parkwood Leisure and project partners.

The investment builds on improvements made earlier this year at Cotgrave Leisure Centre, which benefited from pioneering low-carbon technology, solar panels, enhanced fitness studios, and upgraded changing facilities.

Mayor of Rushcliffe Cllr John Cottee said: “I’m thrilled to mark the re-opening of this much-loved community asset for Keyworth and surrounding areas.

“Residents and visitors can now enjoy and make the most of these modernised facilities, whether they’re meeting for a coffee, taking children to a swimming lesson, or participating in a fitness class to boost their health and wellbeing.

“Come along to Keyworth Leisure Centre and explore all the great new upgrades!”

RBC’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Wellbeing, ICT and Member Development Cllr Jonathan Wheeler added: “It’s fantastic to re-open the doors of this much-loved facility with a fresh, modern look. It’s a great transformation!

“We’re pleased to invest over £5 million across all our sites, including Keyworth, East Leake, Cotgrave, Bingham, Edwalton and West Bridgford, which are a valuable resource for the community, promoting fitness, wellbeing, and social connection.

Our investment aligns with our leisure strategy that focuses on providing accessible, high-quality, and sustainable leisure facilities for all to enjoy.

These new enhancements will help to keep the leisure centres modern and sustainable, serving the community for many years to come.

Contract Manager for Lex Leisure Adam Groves added: “It has been wonderful working alongside RBC and JRD Design and Build to deliver these vital improvements.

“I am excited to welcome customers, old and new, to the centre which looks fabulous.”

JRD Design and Build Director Jordon Kemp said: “We are delighted to have delivered this refurbishment in a challenging timeframe. It is very satisfying to see the finished refurbishment, and we are confident customers will enjoy the new look.”
