Increased patrols following teen park vandalism at Bridgford Park
Last updated: 29/5/2025
Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) is increasing patrols at Bridgford Park in West Bridgford following vandalism of an under-construction Teen Park.
Graffiti has been daubed across wooden benches in the new features as fencing was vandalised to gain access to the site over the weekend of May 24 and 25.
Extra security patrols will now take place in and around the park to monitor the location as the works continue and Police have been informed.
The new feature as set to open in the coming weeks following a £300,000 investment and will include a new climbing structure, balancing trim trail, social hammocks and inclusive equipment.
There is also creation of a teen workout unit featuring monkey bars and a climbing net, birds nest steel swing and teen shelter alongside refurbishment of current play equipment, ground works and resurfacing for the park aimed for older children.
RBC’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure & Wellbeing, ICT & Member Development Cllr Jonathan Wheeler appealed to anyone with information on the vandalism to contact the Council.
He said: “It’s exceptionally disheartening items have been vandalised before they have even been used and we are increasing patrols to ensure this great new facility can be enjoyed as intended when it opens soon.
“We have worked hard with Nottinghamshire Police to lower anti-social behaviour in the area in recent times including using CCTV to identify culprits.
“In the last 12 months Police have also been engaging with young people that in some cases led to home visits to speak to parents that saw arrests of those who refused to curb their criminal behaviour.
“If anyone has any information on the park vandalism please call 0115 981 9911 or email customerservices@rushcliffe.gov.uk “
Recent investments in play area refurbishments by the Council passed the £1m mark earlier this year following the work starting.
The improvements since 2021 have been at parks and open spaces the Council owns including many in West Bridgford and at Rushcliffe Country Park with other parks across the borough often maintained by Town and Parish Councils and other organisations.
Refurbishments at West Park and Abbey Park in the town are planned for later this year.
Cllr Wheeler added: “As summer arrives we want even more people to enjoy our great facilities as they get out and about in the better weather and our parks and play areas are the perfect places to meet friends and have fun.
“We know how much our residents benefit from the ongoing upgrades and really value the facilities we continue to invest in.
“The investment in additional inclusive play equipment is important to us, so that all our residents can enjoy our wonderful play parks.”
Works are being completed by Bunny based playground equipment supplier Proludic Ltd who have designed the updated features.
