Fascinating Royal Photographic Society exhibition to visit West Bridgford from August 2-18

A Royal Photographic Society (RPS) exhibition is set to visit Bridge Field in West Bridgford from August 2 to 18 as part of a nationwide tour celebrating a fascinating range of wonderful imagery.
The esteemed exhibition from this year’s RPS Landscape Group Members’ Exhibition will feature 80 beautiful prints from London to Antarctica. They focus on land and sea, rural and urban and from big scenes to intimate abstracts, including photography from some Notts and Midlands based members.
They will adorn the park’s railings on Bridgford Road at NG2 6AP, a stone’s throw from Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club’s historic Trent Bridge home.
The exhibition is just one of seven locations nationwide to host the images after it opened in May at London’s Southwark Cathedral.
They include images by East Midlands based photographers:
- Harmonious Riot, by Matt Horstwood from Nottingham
- Storm over Shieldaig, by Kevin Gibbin from Burton Joyce
- Gold and Silver, by Maureen Shearer from Sutton-in-Ashfield
- Zig Zag Groyne at Overstrand, by Gordon Brown from Oakham
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Deputy Leader Cllr Abby Brennan said: “We welcome this exhibition for its only stop in the Midlands and we’re very pleased the members have chosen Rushcliffe.
“It’s key we embrace cultural opportunities such as this and particularly on one of our busiest streets in the Borough as residents young and old can enjoy the art of some exceptional photography.
“We’re always looking for new ways to attract visitors to the Borough and inspire the next generation to capture wonderful imagery as technology progresses to view the world in different ways. Come and visit the exhibition from August 2 to 18.”
Exhibition Co-ordinator and RPS member Howard Klein added: “Our exhibition showcases a wide range of images and techniques, all in the beauty of print.
“The world is flooded with images, each lucky to get a glancing few seconds, yet I’ve already seen many people spending time looking at an image and being inspired or just simply enjoying it.
“Being outdoors, our exhibition engages a wider audience than a traditional gallery setting might – including those who may not typically seek out or connect with photography.
“We are very pleased to be taking this exhibition to so many new locations and are grateful to have the support of Rushcliffe Borough Council.”
