Days left for residents to give views on possible new council for Fairham
Last updated: 1/12/2025
Residents in Fairham and Barton-In Fabis are being asked to share their views on the creation of a new parish and council for Fairham, where 3,000 new homes are being built.
Following feedback from residents favouring the creation of a separate parish as part of a Community Governance Review, further views are now being sought by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) before a consultation deadline on Friday December 5.
Each household, local business and community group in the petitioned area has now received an information sheet and questionnaire direct to their address.
This outlines the information also available at www.rushcliffe.gov.uk/barton
Residents can give their preferred option of its governance being named a parish, community, neighbourhood or village council, consisting of nine councillors.Barton in Fabis is a small rural parish with 228 electors.
A historic, but quiet village with limited amenities and is in contrast to the new urban development of Fairham that prompted a petition from the community for possible separate parish councils last year.
In the process of being built and occupied, Fairham is likely to be home to around 6,000 electors and development plans include a shopping area, community centre, primary school, health centre, easy connectivity to the city and business opportunities.
Following the Community Governance Review, of which this consultation is part, should RBC agree to the proposals, the new Fairham Parish Council would come into effect after local elections in May 2027.
