Works commence on outdoor park gym at Abbey Park

Last updated: 2/7/2025

Work has begun on a new outdoor park gym at Abbey Park in West Bridgford as part of investments into park and play area refurbishments by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC).

It will see a host of new features installed at the site including a warm-up area, jumping platforms, sloping bars, low parallette bars and high seating and an inclusive street workout structure with work expected to be completed later in the month in readiness for the school holidays.

This includes inclusive parallel bars, abs board, wheelchair accessible calisthenics rig and a freestyle bars.

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure & Wellbeing, ICT & Member Development Cllr Jonathan Wheeler said: “This latest addition highlights another milestone as part of over £1m of investment in our outdoor sport, wellbeing and leisure opportunities since 2021.

“With warmer weather upon us, we want even more people to enjoy our great facilities as they get out and about in the better weather and our parks and fitness spaces are the perfect places to meet friends and have fun.

“We know how much our residents benefit from the ongoing upgrades and really value the facilities we continue to invest in.

“The investment in additional inclusive equipment is important to us, so that all our residents can enjoy our wonderful facilities.”

Works at the site are being completed by Bunny based equipment supplier Proludic Ltd who designed the updated features.

The improvements in recent years across RBC owned parks and open spaces included many in West Bridgford and at Rushcliffe Country Park with other parks across the borough often maintained by Town and Parish Councils and other organisations.
