Rushcliffe Borough Council has joined thousands of people across the globe by celebrating Commonwealth Day and raising a Commonwealth flag.
The Mayor of Rushcliffe Cllr John Cottee raised the flag at the Council’s Rushcliffe Arena today (Monday March 9) as part of The Fly A Flag celebration, recognising the 56 independent countries all working together.
This year’s Commonwealth Day theme is unlocking opportunities together for a prosperous Commonwealth, which highlights how the Commonwealth family can rally together to face challenges and unlock opportunities.
The Mayor said: “We are so proud to once again raise this flag in Rushcliffe in unison with thousands of others across the World as we raise awareness of all that can be achieved by working together through Commonwealth connection, friendship and cooperation.
“This annual event is a tribute to the values of peave, democracy and equality shared across the Commonwealth nations and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the continued aspirations to build on common traditions and uphold shared values of democracy, development and respect for diversity.”
