RBC licensing team join partners to check private hire taxis in Nottingham

Last updated: 15/10/2025

Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) was pleased to take part in a joint operation with licensing colleagues from Nottingham City Council and Wolverhampton City Council last week in Nottingham.

They conducted 50 test purchases of private hire vehicles and were checking drivers were not illegally plying for hire by picking up fares on the streets who had not pre-booked a journey.

The exercise saw just one of the 50 fail the test as they accepted the fare without prebooking. This meant the driver’s insurance was invalid, a key reminder for all taxi users to never to get into a private hire vehicle without pre-booking so that you are fully insured should an accident occur during a journey.

The driver’s case is pending prosecution at Magistrates’ Court, and their Licensing Authority driver’s licence will be reviewed and could lead their suspension or revocation.
