£400k funding boost to improve football facilities in Rushcliffe

Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) is set to provide a £400,000 funding boost to improve football facilities in the Borough, following approval at its Full Council meeting on Thursday March 5.
The grant will support the development of high‑quality sporting infrastructure and help ensure the long‑term sustainability of new artificial turf football pitches (3G pitches) and associated facilities, including changing rooms and pavilion upgrades.
The Football Association’s Local Football Facility Plan (LFFP), published in 2025, identifies eight priority projects that offer significant strategic value for local football and wider community sport.
It’s part of the authority’s ongoing commitment to delivering its Leisure Strategy, supporting Playing Pitch Strategy, and aligning with The FA’s LFFP.
The sites associated with these projects will be invited to apply for the new funding from April 1. Subject to approval, the following areas are set to benefit:
- Bingham
- Cotgrave
- East Leake
- Keyworth
- Radcliffe on Trent
- Ruddington
- West Bridgford
The funding will help unlock new facilities, improve access to grassroots football and support local sport for years to come, meeting increased demand generated by population growth.
RBC’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Wellbeing, ICT and Member Development Cllr Jonathan Wheeler said: “This funding will help us deliver strategic projects that strengthen local facilities and benefit communities across the Borough.
“Football participation continues to grow in Rushcliffe, creating a shortfall in available pitches. New 3G surfaces with floodlighting will offer reliable, year‑round use, unlike natural grass pitches which are easily affected by bad weather or overplay.
“This grant will help us continue to deliver high‑quality sports facilities across Rushcliffe, supporting healthier, safer and more connected communities in line with our commitment to great sport in the Borough.”
