93% of Rushcliffe food businesses rated very good or good for hygiene
Last updated: 23/2/2026
Over 550 food hygiene inspections carried out by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) in the past year have shown that 93% of current rated premises have a very good or good rating.
In 2024/2025, RBC completed 556 inspections across the Borough which included 196 new business registrations. The authority found 97% of premises were compliant with hygiene standards and 93% were rated a five or four-star rating.
The rating shows how well the business is doing overall, based on standards found at the time of inspection.
The ratings can be found online at ratings.food.gov.uk and stickers are displayed at business premises. The back of the sticker and the online rating will also show inspection date by the local authority’s food safety officer.
Ratings are typically given to places where food is supplied, sold or consumed, such as:
- Restaurants, pubs and cafes
- Takeaways, food vans and stalls
- Canteens and hotels
- Supermarkets and other food shops
- Schools, hospitals and care homes
A new rating is given each time a business is inspected by a food safety officer from the business’s local authority.
Each local authority plans a programme of inspections every year and the frequency of inspections depends on the potential risk to public health.
Members of RBC’s Environmental Health Team recently met with Shakeel Farhan and the Lanka Dragon team at their recently renovated Chinese takeaway on Loughborough Road in West Bridgford to congratulate them on achieving a 5-star hygiene rating.
RBC’s Portfolio Holder for Environment & Safety Cllr Rob Inglis said: “We aim to increase the amount of food hygiene inspections we deliver each year to demonstrate our commitment to protecting the public by ensuring food safety across Rushcliffe.
“Under the FHRS, we’re really pleased that 93% of the Borough’s food businesses rated very good or good for hygiene.
“It reflects the hard work from our Environmental Health Team and local business owners who work together to ensure food safety regulations are followed.
“It considers all sorts of food safety regulations including the type of food that is handled, the number and type of customers, types of processes carried out before the food is sold or served and hygiene standards seen on the day of the last inspection.
“We encourage new food businesses to access advice before they intend to open and designing and setting up a business correctly at the start. This is the best way to avoid hygiene issues early on and achieve the highest rating possible. They can do this when registering on our website at bit.ly/3ZfuSk7.”
Lanka Dragon owner Shakeel Farhan added: “I am very grateful to the Environmental Health Team at Rushcliffe for all their kindness and encouragement in obtaining our five-star rating.
“I truly appreciate the time, support and constructive guidance that they provided, with their feedback and recommendations providing great value.
“We took their input on board and to receive the positive outcome we have has helped to further motivate the whole team following our recent renovations.”
