New Rushcliffe Local Plan

The Council is preparing a new Rushcliffe Local Plan, that is due to be finalised in 2029.

The new Rushcliffe Local Plan will replace the existing Part 1 and Part 2 Local Plans. It will guide how new development within Rushcliffe over the coming years, setting out the Council’s vision and priorities for future development, including the location of new homes, employment, infrastructure and services. It will also establish how high-quality, well-designed places will be created, while protecting and enhancing Rushcliffe's natural environment, biodiversity and green infrastructure.

Notice of Intention to Commence Plan Preparation

On 30 June 2026, the Council published a Notice of Intention to Commence Local Plan Preparation in accordance with the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2026. The new Rushcliffe Local Plan will cover the entire area of Rushcliffe.

The 30‑month plan preparation process is expected to start on 31 October 2026, with preparatory work taking place before then. This includes a scoping stage to identify what the Local Plan should contain and how the Council will engage with stakeholders, including residents, during the plan preparation process.

On 30 June 2026, the Council published its Local Plan Timetable (version 1) and the statement bringing it into effect.

  • Gateway 1 – publication of self-assessment summary: 31 October 2026
  • Plan content and evidence consultation (second consultation stage):17 May 2027 to 28 June 2027
  • Gateway 2 – observations and advice sought from planning inspector: 5 September 2027
  • Proposed Local Plan consultation (third consultation stage): 15 May 2028 to 10 July 2028
  • Gateway 3 – observations and advice sought from planning inspector: 4 September 2028
  • Submission for independent examination: 2 October 2028
  • Adoption of Rushcliffe Local Plan: 30 April 2029

Open data

Rushcliffe Borough Council publishes planning policy data in open, machine-readable formats in accordance with the Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023 and the data standards set by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
