Article 4 Directions
Article 4 Directions remove specified permitted development rights and require planning permission for certain types of development that would otherwise not need planning permission.
Rushcliffe Borough Council maintains a record of Article 4 Directions that are in force within the Borough.
Under the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015 (GPDO) many minor changes (such as small extensions, alterations, or changes of use) can be made without the need for a full planning application:
Where the council considers that those rights could lead to harm (for example to heritage, the countryside or landscape), it may issue an Article 4 Direction. This means that works which would otherwise be permitted development will then require planning permission, see:
An Article 4 Direction does not prevent development or changes of use from taking place. Instead, it requires planning permission to be obtained for the matters specified in the direction.
