Request
I read Rushcliffe Borough Council are going provide another two recycling bins onto the residents of the borough.
- Why the change and at what extra cost supplying all the new bins and collection costs?
- How are you currently disposing of the grey bin waste, does this go for landfill or is it incinerated?
- If the new food waste scheme goes to the same destination as the grey waste why do we require two more waste bins?
- What is the cost of all the new bins and is it a viable scheme?
- Will the new scheme will also require the waste bins to have to have caddy and bin liners in them, if so will you be supplying the required liners biodegradable or not with the new bins or have the residents got to budget for them?
Response
- The change is to comply with legislation and to be able to deliver a kerbside collection of glass. The bins will be 2 separate food waste caddies. A 7 litre internal kitchen bin and a 23 litre outside food waste bin. These will be delivered in the summer of 2027 to help us meet our statutory responsibility to deliver a weekly food waste recycling service which will start across Nottinghamshire in October 2027. This forms part of the significant changes to waste collections as part of the central governments ‘Simpler Recycling legislation’. A link to government pages on this subject is provided for your convenience.
- All grey bin waste collected is sent for incineration at Eastcroft energy from waste facility.
- We are required to collect food waste separately to adhere to legislation changes detailed above.
- The cost is to be fully confirmed as we have to procure the bins, and this will be done centrally across Nottinghamshire.
- The supply of liners has yet to be decided
