Salary £107,232 to £112,065 (includes 2026/27 pay award of 3.3%)

About the Borough

Rushcliffe is home to some iconic sporting venues including world famous Trent Bridge, we have a clear vision and we’re an ambitious and high performing council.

Lying immediately south of the River Trent in Nottinghamshire, home to Trent Bridge and encompassing 157 square miles and 55 parished settlements covering our towns and villages. Rushcliffe is home to the town of West Bridgford where our main Council offices are located in a modern purpose-built office and leisure centre facility – Rushcliffe Arena.

We’re now looking for an ambitious and aspirational leader who has demonstrable Monitoring Officer experience to work alongside our established leadership team, supporting the Council through a major transformation programme.

The Director of Law, Governance, Policy and HR (Monitoring Officer) reports directly to the Chief Executive, and is one of the Council's most strategically important leadership roles. The post provides corporate leadership across a broad portfolio of services that underpin the effectiveness, integrity and success of the entire organisation.

As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Director plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the Council operates lawfully, ethically and transparently, whilst supporting the delivery of the Council's priorities and ambitions for residents, businesses and communities.

This is a truly cross-cutting role, influencing every service area across the Council. From major regeneration projects and service transformation programmes to policy development, governance arrangements and workforce strategy, the Director works collaboratively with Members, senior leaders and partners to ensure the organisation is equipped to make sound decisions, manage risk effectively and deliver high-quality public services.

As the Council's Monitoring Officer, the Director has a statutory responsibility to safeguard good governance, uphold constitutional processes and ensure the highest standards of conduct and decision-making. The role provides independent and impartial advice to elected Members and officers, helping to protect the Council's reputation and maintain public confidence.

The portfolio also encompasses leadership of the Council's legal services, democratic governance, policy and performance functions, and human resources. This unique combination places the Director at the heart of organisational effectiveness, ensuring that the Council's people, policies, governance frameworks and legal foundations are aligned to support delivery of strategic objectives.
Working closely with the Chief Executive, the Director helps shape the future direction of the Council, driving organisational improvement, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture, and ensuring that governance and compliance are viewed not simply as controls, but as key enablers of innovation, transformation and excellent public service.

The Director of Law, Governance, Policy and HR is therefore much more than a functional leader. The role is a trusted strategic adviser, guardian of good governance, champion of the Council's values, and a key contributor to achieving sustainable success across the whole organisation
