Request
I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
By way of context, I am based in South Africa and am seeking to better understand local government structures and public expenditure in the United Kingdom. I acknowledge that there may be differences in terminology and institutional arrangements, and I would greatly appreciate your guidance should any of the terms used below be unclear or not aligned with your internal classifications.
I am aware that some information may already be available through your publication scheme, disclosure logs, or other publicly accessible resources. Where this is the case, I would be grateful if you could direct me to the relevant materials. However, where the requested information is not already available in a consolidated or easily accessible format, I respectfully request that it be provided under the Act.
To assist with retrieval and minimise administrative burden, I have structured this request to focus on high-level information. I respectfully request the following information for the five-year period of 2005–2010:
- Annual financial statements or Statements of Accounts for each year.
- A high-level breakdown of council expenditure by major service areas or directorates under the responsibility of the Borough Council, including:
- Environmental services (parks, open spaces, waste collection, environmental health)
- Housing and planning services
- Licensing and regulatory services
- Community facilities, leisure, and cultural services
- Any available high-level service or directorate reports relevant to the above areas, such as:
- Annual performance reports
- Business or service plans
- Budget summaries
- Summary information relating to external organisations or entities delivering services on behalf of the council, including:
- High-level contract or service arrangements
- Funding allocations
- Performance or monitoring reports (where readily available)
For clarity, this request relates only to services administered by the Borough Council and excludes services such as highways, transport, education, social care, and other functions administered by Nottinghamshire County Council. If the scope of this request exceeds the cost limits prescribed under the Act, I would be grateful if you could prioritise:
- Statements of Accounts
- High-level expenditure breakdowns by service area.
I would also be happy to refine or narrow the request if required to bring it within cost limits. If possible, I would also appreciate any guidance regarding how these service areas are structured within your council, to assist in refining any follow-up requests.
