Emergency Line

You can call us in an emergency between 5pm and 8.30am Monday to Friday, weekends and public holidays. The number to call is 0115 981 1143. The Council has members of staff from some service areas on standby to respond to calls passed to them by our out of hours team.

The services available are:

  • Depot services - see below for a range of safety and waste related services
  • Homelessness
  • Dog warden
  • Housing repairs - Metropolitan tenants
  • Calls for other services

If the Emergency Line is unavailable you can call our out of hours team on 01489 884 644. This number should only be used for an out of hours emergency and the normal Emergency Line is unavailable.

Please note: Only the services listed below offer emergency out of hours cover. If you require any other service you must contact the Customer Service Centre on 0115 981 9911, 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Depot services emergency calls

The following are some of the types of calls that will normally receive an emergency response:

  • Cesspool and cesspit emptying (chargeable)
  • Trees endangering public safety (Edwalton, Gamston and West Bridgford only)
  • Syringes and needles found on public property
  • Removal of contained hazardous substances on public property
  • Removal of debris from the public highway following a road traffic accident (Edwalton, Gamston and West Bridgford only).

Other depot services (e.g. missed refuse collection or booking a special collection) can only be reported by phone in our normal opening hours.

If your home is at risk of flooding and you are unable to acquire your own sandbags, we may be able to help. Please note we will not be able to carry out all sandbag requests if flooding is widespread. In such instances, priority will be given to residents who are most at risk. For further advice please view our frequently asked questions.

Homelessness

The Borough Council has a duty to provide accommodation for homeless people. If you become homeless outside our normal opening hours please call the emergency line for advice.

If you know you are to be made homeless at a later date, please do not call the emergency number. Instead contact the Customer Service Centre the following day.

Dog warden emergency calls

The Environmental Health service provides a 24-hour dog warden within the Borough boundary, although only emergencies are responded to between 4pm and 7am.

Dogs that are endangering public safety, or stray dogs that are captive but not able to be held until the next working day, will normally be attended to by the dog warden out of hours. Other calls will be recorded to be passed on the next working day.

Housing repairs emergency calls

We no longer handle emergency calls for housing. If you are a Metropolitan tenant you need to call 0845 075 35 25.

Calls about any other services

If the nature of your enquiry is not listed above then it is unlikely that our emergency service will be able to help you. If you require a Borough Council service you will be advised to call our Customer Service Centre the following day between 8.30am and 5pm.
