I would like to ask for information about the use of hotel accommodation by your local authority for individuals you have a statutory or other duty to accommodate.

Please do not include the use of hotels for department business or staff in any capacity, for example work travel or conferences etc.

Please provide, broken down by month between January 2019 (or as far back as you can go up to that point) and the latest available month:

  • The number of individuals
  • The number of hotel sites used (for example, individual hotels that are part of a chain, independent hotels, B&Bs etc)
  • Total amount spent
  • Please also provide a broad description of the different groups of people accommodated in hotels and the reasons for using hotels

The use of hotel accommodation by your local authority for individuals you have a statutory or other duty to accommodate.

The number of individuals

  • 2019 - 2020 - 53 households. May include a number of individuals within each household. 
  • 2020 - 2021 - 83 households. May include a number of individuals within each household. 
  • 2021 - 2022 - 91 households. May include a number of individuals within each household. 
  • 2022 - 2023 - 81 households. May include a number of individuals within each household. 
  • 2023 - 2024 - 68 households. May include a number of individuals within each household. 
  • 2024 - 2025 - 80 households. May include a number of individuals within each household. 

The number of hotel sites used (for example, individual hotels that are part of a chain, independent hotels, B&Bs etc)

  • No definitive number. Usage depends on availability

Total amount spent

  • 2019 – 2020 - £44k
  • 2020 – 2021 - £72k
  • 2021 – 2022 - £121k
  • 2022 – 2023 - £105k
  • 2023 – 2024 - £107k
  • 2024 – 2025 - £131k


Please also provide a broad description of the different groups of people accommodated in hotels and the reasons for using hotels. 

Homelessness households who are owed a duty by the Council.
