Response

  • a) Has your council heard of the scheme 'No Mow May'(designed by the wild plant conservation charity Plantlife?)
    • Yes, we have.
  • b) Has your council implemented this scheme? If so, how?
    • We have not implemented the 'No Mow May' scheme as we run our own Summer Pollinator No Mow scheme right through Summer from March to October.
  • c) Has the scheme been promoted? If so, how?
    • No it hasn't been promoted, because we promote the Council's own scheme which is more extensive that not mowing for one month. Our scheme extends for the whole of the Summer season.
  • d) If you haven't implemented the scheme did you consider it and what were your reasons for not doing so?
    • We haven't implemented the scheme because we have our own more extensive scheme which includes:
    • 1. Large number of open space, verge side grass, park and nature sites not mown from March to October, encouraging development of pollinator sites and wildflower sites.
    • 2. Residents are involved with annual surveys helping the Council to decide each year, what further sites are going to be added.
    • 3. The sites are promoted with signage and ongoing YouTube videos showing their growth and wildlife and insects over time.
    • 4. Residents are invited to join us and have their own 'Summer Pollinator No Mow' sites. They are able to download the sign design and put it up in their garden. They can tweet, email and Facebook in pictures about their garden no mow areas for everyone to see.
