Lunar New Year

Celebratory Lunar New Year event takes place in West Bridgford on Saturday February 10

Friends and families are invited to a free Lunar New Year Celebratory event on Saturday February 10 from 1pm until 6pm in West Bridgford for a fun day out with games, activities and entertainment for all.

The celebratory event is supported by Shared Prosperity Funding from the UK Government and will take place at Sir Julien Cahn Pavilion, West Park on Loughborough Road, NG2 7JE.

Getting to the venue

Event goers are encouraged to use public transport to attend the event wherever possible due to limited parking on site.

Closest bus stops to the venue on Loughborough Road are the Chestnut Grove and Chaworth Road stops using Nottingham City Transport city loop bus 10, 10C or 10X.

What's taking place?

Visitors can take part in fun Lunar New year activities including ink painting, Chinese calligraphy writing, red banner making, flower paper crafting, traditional board game Mahjong, face painting and more!

An exhibition by Hong Kong Notts will explore a range of traditions and feature the history of Kei Po, Chinese calligraphy and ink painting.

For those wanting to try a martial art there will be 25-minute gentle Tai Chi sessions taking place every 30 minutes on the half hour throughout the day. The first session will take places at 1.30pm and there are 10 slots available per session.

All indoor workshops run until 5pm and outdoor entertainment including stilt walkers, bubble artists, K-pop DJ and LED dancers will continue until 6pm.

Asian inspired food and drink stalls will also be available throughout the day in an outdoor area including healthy Hong Kong style street food from HKhitwrap, freshly made delicious bubble waffles from The Bubble Waffle Bar and a selection of hot and cold beverages including mulled wine from Boxed Drinks.

Event goers will be asked to sign-in on entrance for all activities as there will be limited capacity within the venue.

Rushcliffe Borough Council is delivering the event in partnership with Groundwork Five Counties, Hong Kong Notts and Hong Kongers in Britain.

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Deputy Leader Cllr Abby Brennan said: “We’re excited for our Lunar New Year celebrating the Year of the Dragon, welcome to all!

“It will be a fantastic fun day out and you can enjoy an array of free activities from traditional ink painting and flower paper crafting to practising your martial art skills with Tai Chi sessions!
