  1. The methods of disposal for rejected household recycling used by your authority for the following years:
    • 2017/18
    • 2018/19
    • 2019/20
    • 2020/21
  2. The annual cost to dispose of rejected household recycling within your authority for the following years:
    • 2017/18
    • 2018/19
    • 2019/20
    • 2020/21
  3. The main reasons for household recycling being rejected. For example, items were contaminated or not suitable for recycling.
  4. Any guidance or instructions under which recycling centres determine the acceptance or rejection of items collected within your authority.

Response

  1. The methods of disposal for rejected household recycling used by your authority for the following years: Note, we do not hold electronic copies of waste transfer notes. This is because tonnages are agreed with our disposal partners as a percentage of the overall tonnage input into the Materials Recovery Facility based on a sampling regime. See below percentage rejections and rejected tonnage.
    • 2017/18 - Rejected tonnage = 674.88. Average annual percentage rejected = 11%
    • 2018/19 - Rejected tonnage = 820.07. Average annual percentage rejected = 11.7%
    • 2019/20 - Rejected tonnage = 807.53. Average annual percentage rejected = 11.7%
    • 2020/21 - Rejected tonnage = 940.18. Average annual percentage rejected = 11.7%
  2. The annual cost to dispose of rejected household recycling within your authority for the following years:
    • Costs of disposal is the responsibility of the Waste Disposal Authority. Please contact Nottinghamshire County Council for this information.
  3. The main reasons for household recycling being rejected. For example, items were contaminated or not suitable for recycling.
    • Does not meet the input specification of paper, card, plastic bottles, yoghurt pots, margarine tubs, mixed food and drinks cans.
  4. Any guidance or instructions under which recycling centres determine the acceptance or rejection of items collected within your authority.
    • If you are referring to Household Waste Recycling Centres (the tip) these are the responsibility of the Waste Disposal Authority. Please contact Nottinghamshire County Council for this information If you are referring to kerbside collected recycling, sampling of loads take place as per the MRF regulations criteria.
