How to reapply for your postal vote

Following changes introduced by the Elections Act 2022, postal votes arrangements cannot last longer than three years.

Any domestic elector with a postal vote granted on or before 30 January 2024 must reapply by 31 January 2026.If a new application is not received by this date, the Electoral Registration Officer is required by law to cancel the postal vote, and electors will have to vote in a polling station until a new postal vote application is received.

The quickest and easiest way to reapply for a postal vote, is by submitting an application on the Government website.

As part of your application, you will be required to provide your:

  • Date of birth
  • National Insurance number
  • Upload a photo or scanned copy of your handwritten signature in black ink on plain white paper*

*If you are unable to provide a signature or a consistent signature (due to a disability or inability to read or write), you can contact us to ask for a signature waiver.

If you are unable to complete an application using the online service, you can download and complete a paper application form.

Changes to application form

The Elections Act 2022 introduced the following changes for voters for postal voters:

  • Electors can now apply online
  • Electors must prove suitable identity as part of the application process. Your identity will be verified against records held by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). If this identity check fails, you must provide evidence of your identity.
  • Postal vote applications are now valid for a maximum period of three years and a new application must be made at the end of that time.

  • do not reapply online, or
  • have not provided us with an email address

How to cancel your postal vote

If you wish to cancel your postal vote, please email elections@rushcliffe.gov.uk with your full name and address stating that you no longer want to vote by post.
