Residents asked for views on possible creation of a council for Fairham
Residents in Fairham and Barton-In Fabis in Rushcliffe are to be further consulted on their views about the creation of a new parish and council for Fairham where 3,000 new homes are being built.
A petition received by Rushcliffe Borough Council(RBC) earlier this year prompted a Community Governance Review which saw engagement with local people in June and July.
This saw 39% of residents in the existing parish area that covers both locations respond and 97% of those respondents favoured the creation of a separate parish.
RBC has recommended the new parish be named Fairham and residents give their preferred option of its governance being named a parish, community, neighbourhood or village council, consisting of nine councillors.
The next part of the review is to ask residents if they agree with the Borough Council’s recommendations and they are being urged to have their say on the proposals before Wednesday December 5.
They can complete a form that will arrive through the post and return it to:
FREEPOST RTJY-BGGZ-EKZK, Rushcliffe Borough Council, Rushcliffe Arena, Rugby Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 7YG.
Alternatively, they can send an email response to consultation@rushcliffe.gov.uk. Even if residents signed the petition and/or replied to the first round of consultation it is important that they give their views.
The responses to the consultation will be considered by RBC and a final decision on any new Council coming into effect will be made by March 5 next year.
Share views on planning guidance for Gamston and Tollerton development at local libraries

The land was allocated in RBC’s Local Plan in 2014, for 4,000 new homes, employment space and necessary supporting infrastructure, including new schools and other community facilities.
The draft guidance, also known as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), includes detailed requirements for the different types of development on site, how people will access and move around the site, and the core facilities that will be needed.
The SPD will include a masterplan to ensure delivery of necessary site-wide infrastructure and sets out the specific requirements of RBC, the local highway authority, the local education authority and health providers, to ensure those submitting applications are informed about the requirements from the outset.
As part of the consultation, RBC is hosting an in-person event at Gamston Community Hall in West Bridgford NG2 6PS on Wednesday October 22 from 3pm to 8pm for residents to speak to officers, find out more about the SPD, and share their views on the draft planning guidance.
The venue is located adjacent to Morrisons Gamston, has free on-site parking and local bus routes nearby.
