Rushcliffe Borough Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Housing Options Advisor to join its Housing Options Team.
This is a key front-line role within our homelessness and housing advice service. You will provide comprehensive housing options advice, actively promote homelessness prevention, investigate homelessness applications and help ensure the Council meets its statutory duties under homelessness legislation.
The successful candidate will work directly with households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness, carrying out detailed assessments, developing Personalised Housing Plans, making statutory homelessness decisions and working closely with partner organisations to prevent homelessness wherever possible.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate:
- Experience of homelessness, homelessness prevention, housing advice or related work.
- Experience of working with vulnerable people in complex situations.
- Experience of managing a client caseload and interviewing clients.
- An in-depth working knowledge of homelessness legislation including Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
- Up-to-date knowledge of housing and tenancy legislation.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to manage a varied workload and make sound decisions in challenging situations.
The role involves close working with private landlords, support providers, statutory agencies and other partners to achieve positive housing outcomes for residents. You will also contribute to the delivery of the Council's Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy and wider homelessness prevention initiatives.
The post is based at Rushcliffe Arena, West Bridgford, with hybrid working arrangements available. The successful candidate will participate in an out-of-hours housing emergencies rota, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, for which a standby payment is made.
