Request

We are undertaking works for Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station, NG11 0EE. Given the current and historical use of the land, we are keen to reach out for an environmental data request from yourselves regarding any current or historical environmental information you may hold.

Response

The request for ‘any current/historical environmental information’ is very wide ranging - is there specific information you are looking for e.g. land contamination related, environmental permitting, air quality, noise data, ecology etc

Rushcliffe Borough Council is aware of the current and historic use of the Site as a Power Station which closed in September 2024 and is currently undergoing decommissioning. Our historical mapping records identify the use of the of land (within the redline boundary) as a Power Station.

The Site is included on our list of prioritised sites (as defined in the Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990) due to its historical/current use and has been given a low-risk score due to the site still being in operation and active.

As you are most likely aware a Local Development Order (LDO) was adopted for the Power Station site in 2023 following an application to the Council in 2022 (22/01339/LDO Proposed Local Development Order for development at Ratcliffe on Soar Power Station). The Environmental Impact Statement submitted to support the application included information on a range of environmental related information. All information submitted to support the application for the LDO and the subsequent discharge of conditions is available on our planning website. You can access this information using the search function on our planning website https://planningon-line.rushcliffe.gov.uk/online-applications/search.do?action=simple&searchType=Application

You can also access information pertaining to other planning applications on the Site via the above link.

We are aware processes on the Power Station site operated under environmental permits regulated by the Environment Agency. You may wish to contact the Environment Agency for further information.
