New 3G pitch opened at East Leake Leisure Centre

6 March 2019

Local sports clubs, residents and school children can hone their sporting skills all year round thanks to a new 3G pitch opened at East Leake Leisure Centre.

The facility replaces the previous astro-turf surface and is wind, rain, sun and ice resistant so the facilities can be enjoyed throughout the year.

The previous pitch laid in 2003 and had become worn with some games and training sessions also falling foul of cancellations due to the surface not being able to cope with adverse weather conditions.

However the new pitch will host games whatever the weather, thanks to an injection of £150,000 funding from East Leake Schools Ltd who operate Lantern Lane school and the East Leake Academy in the village.

Rushcliffe Borough Council, Leisure Centre contractors Mitie and Nottinghamshire County Council who work with the schools were delighted to see the new facility open on Tuesday (March 5).

Deputy Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council Cllr Debbie Mason attended the opening of the pitch with Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Finance Cllr Gordon Moore, Vice Principal of East Leake Academy Blake Francis, Mitie’s Charlie Howick, Chairman of East Leake Bantams Football Club Chris Berry and members of their under 7’s who regularly use the site.

Cllr Mason said: “It is fabulous to see this new state of the art pitch open, providing a great facility to the local schools, football clubs and leisure centre alike.

“The pitch will allow so many to enjoy sports and fitness activities in rain or shine, which helps maintain physical and mental health.”

Cllr Moore said: “We would like to thank East Leake Schools Ltd for their investment, Nottinghamshire County Council for approving the project and Mitie for their delivery of this fantastic facility.

“This brilliant new pitch is a great asset for East Leake and endorses Rushcliffe further as a place for ‘great sport’”.

As well as the football club, the schools, leisure centre and community groups also use the facility which is also available for hire.
