Cotgrave and Keyworth Leisure centres join Refill Rushcliffe

10 September 2018

Leisure centres in Cotgrave and Keyworth are the latest outlets to join the Refill Rushcliffe scheme enabling the public to refill their reusable water bottles and reduce single-use plastics.

Customers visiting the leisure centres operated by Parkwood Leisure can now request to have their reusable water bottle filled free of charge as part of the initiative.

In August the authority announced Café Vita at Rushcliffe Arena also joined Refill Rushcliffe as part of the award winning national ‘City to Sea’ scheme where businesses and community venues act as a filling up point for thirsty passers-by.

Now they can refill their bottles, signposted by stickers in participating outlets windows and via the scheme’s app.

Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council Cllr Simon Robinson said: “It is great that our contractors Parkwood Leisure are further supporting Refill Rushcliffe with two more leisure centres joining the scheme.

“Local outlets hoping to join simply need to search for the app, download it and register, which takes a matter of minutes.

“Residents and visitors to these sites in Cotgrave and Keyworth will now be able to use their reusable cups instead of purchasing a single use bottle and as a contractor Parkwood are further highlighting their environmental values.”

Rob Linthwaite Centre Manager of Parkwood Leisure sites at Cotgrave and Keyworth explained the scheme further supports their aim to reduce single-use plastics throughout the leisure centres in the Borough.

He said: “We are delighted to join Refill Rushcliffe, allowing visitors to our Cotgrave and Keyworth sites to top up their reusable bottles free of charge.

“Joining the scheme fits with our review of single-use plastics at all Parkwood Leisure sites where we are offering environmentally friendly alternatives instead.

“We would encourage all visitors to bring their reusable bottles, helping to reduce the need for single-use plastics.”

More volunteer co-ordinators are being sought to help engage local communities with the scheme and assist with registering venues and businesses who wish to support the initiative.
