World class triathletes are just two weeks away from competing in Rushcliffe and on the Victoria Embankment as potential Olympic stars battle it out in the Accenture World Triathlon Mixed Relay Nottingham.
A free Rushcliffe Family Zone, in the shadow of Trent Bridge will entertain event-goers with a host of friendly activities from 4.30pm to 6.30pm on Thursday June 7, warming up spectators ahead of the elite action.
In conjunction with British Triathlon and Nottingham City Council, why not bring a picnic and enjoy the atmosphere of the event ahead of the elite race as the world famous Brownlee brothers will be amongst the stars competing for a place at Tokyo 2020.
Drop-in hula hooping sessions from Project Hoop, face painting and balloon bracelets by The Face Store are set to get spectators in the mood and there will also be the opportunity to ride the smoothie bike so you can blend your own smoothie using pedal power!
Deputy Leader of the Council Cllr Debbie Mason said: “I am so excited for this event to be returning to the borough. It was such a success last year and it’s great to watch such amazing athletes.
“Come along to the Rushcliffe Family Zone on the south side of the river on the evening of June 7 for great entertainment and a wonderful view of some of the world’s best triathletes.
“The atmosphere is set to be buzzing again and is the perfect free family event.”
The event is the first chance for the world’s elite athletes to battle for their Olympic spot in Japan with crucial qualifying points at stake before they head to similar events in Hamburg, Germany and Edmonton in Canada.
Triathletes will dive into the River Trent, before racing around Victoria Embankment on their bikes and finishing off by running over Trent Bridge, along Trentside and back over the Suspension Bridge to the Embankment where they will hand over to their teammate.
