Rushcliffe encourages communities to join the Great Plastic pick up

30 April 2018

Rushcliffe Borough Council and Streetwise are encouraging communities across the borough to join the nationwide Great Plastic Pick Up.

The campaign, led by Keep Britain Tidy, will take place over the weekend of May 11 -13 and aims to inspire thousands of volunteers around the country to collect the estimated 15 million plastic bottles littering public areas.

Volunteer groups and individuals in Rushcliffe can now sign up to lend their support to the effort at

Streetwise will collect and dispose of any plastic and waste collected free of charge and will also make litter pickers and further equipment available for groups to use on request.

Volunteers will be provided with branded campaign bags by the initiative to collect plastic bottles but also bags for wider litter and aluminum cans so all waste can be separated and recycled accordingly by Streetwise.

Rushcliffe Borough Council Deputy Leader Cllr Debbie Mason said: “We’re committed to not only reducing single-use plastics but keeping our communities as clear as possible of plastic items and general litter too

“We already know many people in Rushcliffe look after their neighbourhoods wonderfully, with regular litter picks to complement Streetwise efforts, it would be inspiring if even more people get on board with this great initiative.”

Branded campaign bags with picked items can also be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Rugby Road in West Bridgford.

Streetwise are now contacting Parish Councils in the borough to alert them to the dedicated pick.

Once registered on the website, those interested in receiving support from Streetwise should call 0115 914 8593 or email
