29 April 2018

A Rushcliffe Borough Councillor has celebrated her 90th birthday in her 40th consecutive year of representing her community in East Leake.

Cllr Mrs Marie Males reached the landmark last week as she attended her incredible 200th Full Council meeting that has also included thousands of hours of support attending and contributing to Council committees over the last four decades.

She said: “I can truly say I continue to been honoured to represent East Leake and enjoy every aspect of representing and helping people in the community.

“There has been considerable change since I was elected in 1979 as you might imagine but adapting to the expectations of the people I represent in the village and working hard to achieve as much as possible spurs me on year after year.”

Borough Council Chief Executive Allen Graham presented the Councillor with a bouquet of flowers from all staff at the organisation and wished her well celebrating her respective milestones.

He said: “We wished Cllr Males a very happy birthday and the warm round of applause she received from fellow councillors, the public attending the meeting and officers highlighted just how highly regarded she is.

“She epitomises what public duty to a community is all about and the length of service she has delivered and continues to give is inspiring.”
