Supplementary planning
Each Supplementary Planning Document will form part of the Local Development Framework and provide detailed guidance on how policies in the documents such as the Core Strategy will be implemented.
Supplementary Planning Documents form a material consideration in deciding planning applications. Those proposed for the Borough are:
- Development requirements
- Affordable housing
- Open space, sport and recreation
- Residential design guidance.
Affordable housing
Information on the draft affordable housing supplementary planning document.

Supplementary planning guidance was published for affordable housing in 2003 and covered the provision of affordable housing on development sites of 25 dwellings and above. It sets out the proposed approach to the type of affordable housing required in new developments.
Following the production of this guidance, both the Rushcliffe Housing Market and Needs Assessment Update 2004 and the Need for Affordable Housing in South Nottinghamshire 2001-2011 and 2001-2021 (July 2005) were published. In light of these two updated studies, the Council considered that the provision of approximately 30% affordable housing should be sought on suitable sites.
In addition, the Rushcliffe Borough non-statutory replacement local plan reduces the threshold for sites on which an element of affordable housing will be sought to 15 dwellings or 0.5 hectares or more (policy HOU7). The Local Plan Inspector supported this threshold and The Council published its intention to accept the Inspector's recommendations in 2006.
In 2005, The Council commenced work on its Affordable Housing Supplementary Planning Document to supersede the existing guidance.
The affordable housing pre-production document and sustainability appraisal scoping report for published for consultation in August 2005.
Following this initial consultation stage, the draft affordable housing supplementary planning document was published for consultation between 6 January and 17 February 2006. Its publication was supported by a draft sustainability appraisal affordable housing.
The next steps
Following the withdrawal of the Replacement Local Plan, the Borough Council has been unable to adopt the Supplementary Planning Document on a formal basis. Despite this, it still provides useful guidance on the Borough's approach to delivering affordable housing.
It is The Council’s intention to resume production of an Affordable Housing Supplementary Planning Document once further progress has been made on Local Development Framework Core Strategy.
Residential design guide
Rushcliffe Borough Council has produced a Residential Design Guide SPD which was adopted by The Council on 10 February 2009.

Highways design guidance
Nottinghamshire County Council with other Local Highways Authorities has published the highway design guide setting out general principles and minimum standards for the layout and dimensions of highways and paved areas in residential and industrial developments. The guide is entitled ‘Highways, transportation and development’.
Development requirements
Supplementary Planning Guidance was published for developer requirements in 2003. The guidance gives details of the contributions to development required to ensure that the full impact of a development on local amenities, infrastructure and services is know. This would not otherwise form part of a planning proposal.
The Guidance sets out the issues and sites on which contributions to development requirements are likely to be sought and the mechanisms for securing it.
