Scrap metal dealers

Scrap Metal is regulated under the provisions of Scrap Metal Dealers Act 1964.

A scrap metal dealer is classed as a person carrying on a business in the area when any of the following apply:

  • The dealer occupies a place as a scrap metal store
  • The dealer does not occupy a place as a scrap metal store but lives in the area
  • The dealer does not occupy a place as a scrap metal dealer but occupies a place for business purposes.

There is no charge for the registration and it is renewable every three years.

Am I eligible? 

The applicant must provide full details of themselves and their business. The dealer must notify the local authority of any changes to these details or if they cease to be a scrap metal dealer.

Once your application form has been received the authority the Police will be informed of the application and you will contacted.

Contact the local authority in the first instance.
