Disabled Facilities Grant

Rushcliffe Borough Council provides Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) to help towards the cost of adaptations and facilities which enable a disabled person (of all ages) to access and live independently in their property. The first step to obtaining a DFG is to contact Nottinghamshire County Council Occupational Therapist department who will assess your eligibility.

There is information about the Disabled Facilities Grant  on the Nottinghamshire County Council website.

Handyperson Preventative Adaptation Service

Nottinghamshire County Council, in partnership with health authorities, district councils, Fire and Rescue service and the Police has set up the ‘Handy Person Adaptation Service’ (HPAS). The service provides help to older and vulnerable people in Nottinghamshire.

The type of jobs they can help with range from fitting hand rails and half steps, to changing light bulbs, fitting door locks and putting up shelves. Often very small jobs such as fixing loose carpets or installing a handrail can prevent a fall and avoid unnecessary distress to an individual.

All traders are registered with the Notts County Council Buy with Confidence scheme.

Adaptations to your home may help you to remain living independently and safely in your own home. If you are over 60 or have a disability and live in Nottinghamshire you are eligible to have any of the following pieces of equipment:

  • Grab rails
  • Stair rails
  • Half steps
  • Exterior hand rails.

There is a limit of £250 worth of equipment per household. This service will cost you £15. Please note: adaptations cannot be fitted into houses that are rented from the Council or a housing association.

Handyperson services are available to you if you are over 60 or have a disability and live in Nottinghamshire. They are available regardless of whether you own or rent your home. This service will cost you £15.

Please note: this service does not include gardening, decorating or any job that requires a specialist skill.
