Information about registering to vote and the register of electors.
Step 1 - Check that you are eligible to vote
To be eligible for inclusion on the Register, you must be:
- Over 18, or reach the age of 18 during the period in which the register is in operation (from 1 December each year to 30 November in the following year)
- A British or Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Irish Republic or a citizen of the European Union
- Living at an address within Rushcliffe for at least 6 months of the year.
(Overseas electors (i.e eligible British citizens living abroad) may register and vote at Parliamentary and European Parliamentary elections only for a period of up to 15 years after they have left the country. There is no entitlement to vote at local elections.)
All applications to be registered as an elector are subject to public inspection to allow for objections to be made in accordance with the Representation of the People Acts. You may be asked to produce evidence to support any information you give.
Step 2 - Check the date on which you are registering
Between 11 August and 15 October you should complete the annual canvass ‘Voter Registration Form’ which will have been sent to your property. If you have not received one please ring 0115 981 9911. (If you do not register you will not be able to vote at any election and it is also a criminal offence not to complete and return the annual registration form, or to provide inaccurate or false information; liable to a fine of up to £1,000)
If it is any other date, go to Step 3 and complete a rolling registration form.
Step 3 – Download and Return a Rolling Registration Form
Download and complete the Electoral registration form which should be delivered to:
Electoral Services,
Rushcliffe Borough Council,
Civic Centre,
Pavilion Road,
West Bridgford,
Nottingham
NG2 5FE.
If you do not have a printer, you can request a form by ringing us 0115 981 9911.
If your form is completed correctly and no one objects to your name appearing on the register, you will be added to the register at the next monthly update and you will be sent a confirmation of your registration.
There are mid-month deadlines laid down by law for the receipt of such an application. For most applicants, these mean that you will be added to the register within six weeks of our receiving your form.
See the Electoral registration form guidance notes for help on completing the form.
