Being homeless does not necessarily mean living on the streets. You may be homeless if:
- You are temporarily staying with friends or family.
- You are staying in a hostel or a hotel.
- You are at risk of violence or abuse in your home.
- You are living in very overcrowded conditions.
- You are living somewhere which you can’t afford to pay for without depriving yourself of basic essentials.
If you find yourself in any of these situations then the Council may have a duty to provide you with emergency accommodation whilst they investigate your circumstances.
If you are homeless you should contact the Housing Options Team immediately on 0115 91 48579 or alternatively visit them at the Civic Centre, Pavilion Road, West Bridgford, NG2 5FE. It is always best to phone in advance for an appointment to avoid long waiting times.
If the Council does not have a duty to provide you with emergency accommodation then they may be able to refer you to other emergency accommodation, but it is not guaranteed you will get a bed for the night.
Where possible if the applicant is not homeless that day then we will always work to prevent homelessness from actually occurring.
