Rabies is a very serious disease that can even be life threatening. It is transmitted to humans from the bodily fluids of a rabid animal. If someone is bitten or scratched by an animal suspected of having rabies, they must seek immediate medical attention.
It is illegal to import any animal not having a valid vet passport. It is also illegal to contain any animal suspected to have been imported into the country illegally.
Nottinghamshire County Council's Trading Standards department is responsible for the enforcement of rabies protection within Rushcliffe. For further information, email the County Council Animal Health Officer, or telephone: 01623 452 005.
For national information about rabies, visit the rabies prevention section of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) website.
