Information about markets taking place in Rushcliffe, including the regular market in Bingham and the farmers' market in West Bridgford.

Bingham Market

A traditional market, managed by Rushcliffe Borough Council, held every Thursday throughout the year around the historic Bingham Buttercross.

The small market town of Bingham lies to the east of Nottingham, on the edge of the picturesque Vale of Belvoir. The focal point of the town is the beautiful Buttercross situated in the Market Place. It was built in 1861 by public subscription, and the women of the Vale of Belvoir would sit and display their baskets of butter and cheese.

Edward II granted the original Market Charter to the Lady of the Manor Alice de Byngham in 1314. It is likely that the market existed before that date, with the charter merely legalising an already established event. The market fell into disuse at the end of the 19th Century and was re-opened in its present form in 1975.

Nowadays a market, managed by the Borough Council, is still held every Thursday around the Buttercross. Stalls are set up early in the morning with fresh produce such as fruit and vegetables, fish and meat. There are also household goods, plants and clothing as well as many other bargains. The opening times of the market vary slightly from season to season and subject to weather conditions, but generally stalls are set up from 7.30-9am and finish anytime between 2pm and 4pm.

During holiday periods the market is often enlivened by street entertainment to encourage families to come and enjoy the facilities. Look out for future advertising announcements.
