What's special events are planned?
Christmas 2009 was kicked-off in Rushcliffe with the annual Christmas Lights Switch On in West Bridgford on Saturday 21 November. Visitors took in the festive atmosphere strolling around the farmers market and craft fair, picking up last minute gifts in the local shops and taking off the chill with mulled wine, mince pies, hot chestnuts and other tasty treats.
The day was filled with entertainment, from traditional carolling with West Bridgford Churches Together and the Social Singers to comedy singing Christmas Crackers - there was plenty to get you in the Christmas mood! Plus, special guest Father Christmas set up camp in his magical grotto on Gordon Square for one day only.
The entertainment reached a peak as darkness falls, with musical entertainment from classical trio The Bowfins and Britain’s Got Talent 2008 semi finalists, Irresistible. The exciting build up to the big switch was filled with a special performance from Join the Mayor of Rushcliffe and Trent FM Breakfast Show hosts Twiggy and Emma as they lit up West Bridgford with an array of fireworks and twinkling lights in our finale and grand switch on at 5pm. Christmas has truly arrived in Rushcliffe!
