There are over 46,000 homes in Rushcliffe of many different types and the Council has responsibilities in relation to housing conditions, housing needs and supporting residents in their homes.
Rushcliffe Borough Council no longer owns any housing stock; there was a Large Scale Voluntary Transfer of all of the stock in January 2003 to another organisation (Rushcliffe Homes, now renamed Spirita). Since then the Council has made great strides forward in establishing its strategic housing role and the importance of housing in the Council’s agenda is reflected by its continuing status as a corporate priority.
The Council is responsible for ensuring that a range of options, including new affordable homes, is available to meet the housing needs of all Rushcliffe residents. We also provide advice and assistance to all residents relating to adaptations and energy efficiency matters, housing advice and homelessness and proactively inspecting certain types of rented houses and responding to complaints about housing conditions to maintain property safety.
The Strategic Housing and Private Sector Housing Teams (in the Environment and Waste Management Service) work in partnership to ensure that all of these functions are being met.
Finding a Home
With the average cost of buying a property in the Borough (£209,013) in May 2009 considerably higher than the average price for all properties for sale in England and Wales (£152,965) in the same time period, it is not surprising that many people in the Borough struggle to find housing that is affordable for them.
If you need assistance with finding somewhere to live there are a range of options available to you.
Housing Advice and Assistance
The Housing Options and Private Sector Housing Teams work on a daily basis to provide assistance to those in any form of housing need. They work together to assist with any housing related query whether you are a homeowner, private or social rented tenant, or you do not have anywhere to live - Housing Advice.
Housing Finance
With the cost of housing in the Borough so expensive it is not surprising that increasing numbers of residents are struggling to find somewhere affordable to live. There are a number of services that Rushcliffe Borough Council provides to help those in greatest need afford their home - Housing Finance.
Improving and Adapting Your Home
The Council is committed in trying to improve standards in all homes across the Borough whether they are in the owner occupied, private or social rented sector. To improve standards there are a number of grants, loans and other offers available for Rushcliffe residents to improve and adapt their home.
Affordable Housing Development
The Strategic Housing Service aims to address housing needs by working in partnership with developers and Registered Social Landlords to increase the supply of affordable housing to rent and to buy across the Borough.
