Stopping the benefits cheats

Rushcliffe is working with the Audit Commission to crack down on benefit fraud by sharing information as part of the National Fraud Initiative (NFI).

Organisations such as councils, central government, the NHS and some private sector companies work together and the latest results for 2008/09 revealed £215 million of fraud was prevented by doing this exercise.

Rushcliffe Borough Council will be providing information to the Audit Commission in October 2010 to ensure fraud is prevented - details about housing and council tax benefits, insurance claims, concessionary travel passes, licences, payroll, and trade creditor details. Rushcliffe has to do this by law and we have checked this with the necessary regulatory bodies. We have been assured that the data will be secure and it will be destroyed in due course.
