Corporate single equality scheme

Rushcliffe Borough Council will champion equality and diversity in everything it does. The Council aims to provide services fairly and recognises the importance of meeting the diverse range of needs among its cross-section of residents, customers and staff.  The Council strives to ensure Rushcliffe is an inclusive council with welcoming and safe communities.

The Council used the Equality Standard for Local Government (ESLG) and the improvement framework to assess its performance in equality and diversity. Since adopting this process, The Council has made significant progress and was successful in achieving Level 3 in 2009.  Our corporate equality scheme outlines how we will meet the general duty (section 149) of the Equality Act to eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation and foster good relationships.

The Council will now measure its progress against the Improvement and Development Agency’s (IDeA) new Equality Framework for Local Government. This new standard replaces the ESLG and will concentrate on 5 areas:

  • Knowing your communities and monitoring equality
  • Place-shaping, leadership, partnership and organisational commitment
  • Community engagement and satisfaction
  • Responsive services and customer care
  • A modern and diverse workforce.

Over the next year, the Council will work towards meeting this standard in preparation for a formal assessment. Download our Single Equality Scheme (draft).
