Navigating using the keyboard - access keys

Access keys are keyboard shortcuts used to navigate to certain areas of the site. They are included for the assistance of users who may have difficulty using a mouse or other pointing device.

How to use access keys

The BBC My Web My Way pages give guidance on how to use access keys in different browsers.

Resizing text

In the header on every page is a 'widget' using which you can resize the text of this website. However, you can also control this with your browser settings, meaning that you can do it for all sites not just this one.

If the text is too small (or too big) for you to comfortably read then you can resize it accordingly. Instructions are given for the latest versions of major browsers below:

Internet Explorer

  • From the Page menu choose Text Size and choose the size you want. OR
  • Alternatively you can hold down the ctrl key and press the + key to increase the text size. Use the ctrl key with the - (minus) key to reduce the text size

Firefox

  • From the View menu choose Zoom. Select the appropriate option from the zoom menu. OR
  • Hold down the ctrl key and press the + key to increase the text size. Use the ctrl key with the - (minus) key to reduce the text size.

Opera

  • From the View menu choose Zoom. Select the appropriate option from the zoom menu. OR
  • Use the + key to increase the text size and the - minus key to reduce it.

Google Chrome

  • Hold down the ctrl key and press the + key to increase the text size. Use the ctrl key with the - (minus) key to reduce the text size.

Safari

  • From the View menu Select either Make Text Bigger or Make text smaller. OR
  • Use the Command key and + to increase text size. Use the Command key with - (minus) to reduce text size.

Alternative format

If you would like to request content on our site in either large print format, an alternative language or on cd, please contact us and we can help you with this.

Changing the colour scheme
